Television Junkie (Part 1 of x)

Over the last few months, I have been watch a helluva lot of television. I have been mostly watching British shows and a few from Australia.

Shows that I have watched:

Kath & Kim (Aus): Series 1-4
Grownups (UK): Series 1-3
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps (UK): Series 1-7
Gavin and Stacey (UK): Series 1-2
Summer Heights High (Aus): Series 1 (soon to be airing on HBO)
The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle (UK): Series 1

I discovered It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia on Hulu.com, and this show is awesome. To me, the show is a mix of Seinfeld, Strangers With Candy, and Friends. I watched from the beginning starting this past Friday and caught up to season 4 in 4 days. Check it out if you haven't already.

Shows I plan on watching before the end of the year:

Mad Men (US): Seasons 1-2
Blackadder (UK): Series 1-4
The Wire (US): Seasons 1-5

What's In The Box?

The crate I shipped from Syracuse, NY, finally arrived this weekend.

What's in the box?

A 52" LCD 1080P HDTV. The TV belonged to my brother and since my mother didn't have any use for it, I decided to take it. I had to ship it via a shipping company that didn't offer insurance. I was uneasy about shipping this very expensive item with any coverage, but I decided just to take a chance. If it broke, it broke. Luckily ... it didn't.

So I have a new toy to keep me busy. I am giving my old 32" LCD HDTV to my sister so I have to ship that out to her in a couple of weeks.

Tennis Tournament: Houston, TX

Day 1

I had four matches on this day. The weather was perfect, but the courts were not. The area where we played received a lot of damages from Hurricane Ike, and it was a bit depressing. But it was soon match time and I had to blocked all this out.

Match 1 (singles): Won. 6-1, 6-4.
Match 2 (singles): Won. 7-6(8), 6-1.
Match 3 (doubles): Won. 6-3, 6-3.
Match 4 (doubles): Won. 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.

Day 2

Match 5 (singles): Won. 6-0, 6-3.

I beat my nemesis during this match. He last beat me a few months ago so I had to return the favor. My game clicked during this match and I made very few mistakes. My opponent ended up injuring himself during the second set but it was at the point where the match was pretty much over.

Match 6 (semi-final singles): Lost. 4-6, 3-6.

I lost my single's semi-final to a guy we was very aggressive at the net. Instead of being patience and try to hit balls over his head, I was trying to hit the ball through him ... which didn't work. He was a good player, so at least I lost to someone better than me.

Match 7 (semi-final doubles): Won. 7-6(2), 6-2.

We were up 4-1 in the first set and we ended up blowing the lead and ended up going to a tie-breaker. My doubles partner and I weren't not happy and decided to turn our game on .. and we never looked back.

Match 8 (final doubles): Won. 6-2, 6-2.

My doubles partner and I played against a friend from our tennis club and someone we know from Austin, TX, in the finals. We started very strong because we knew our opponents game and made them work for each point. The match was done in under a hour and gave each other a big bear-hug at the end.

Considering that I was thinking about not even going to Houston, TX, due to all of the recent events, I ended up playing some of my best tennis.

Other Stuff

Got these sneakers on sale at Finish Line. I saw then in Raliegh, NC, but decided not to get them. When I saw them in Houston, TX, ON SALE, I knew I had to buy them. And as it turned out, I had an outfit to wear that match perfectly.

Also, my favorite player, Venus Williams, won the WTA Championship in Doha, Qatar on the same day I won (with my partner).

Coincidence?

More on Venus in my next post ....

First Night In Houston, TX

First Night In Houston, TX
Originally uploaded by KillerVirgo

My doubles partner and I got into Houston around 6pm. We were waiting for some others to arrive at the hotel. We decided to walk around the Galleria Mall because I never been to this mall in all my times in the city. I got these sneakers I originally saw in north carolina and they were on sale, so I had to get them. The mall is a bit small but it'salright.

Off to bed so I can up for my 8am match.

Wish me luck!

Barack Obama - The 44th President of the United States of America

So, he won.

When John Kerry lost in 2004, I was really down because we was doing so well and somehow George Bush won. With Obama, it was never really a tight race. The election was over when he won Pennsylvania and Virginia. Florida and Ohio were just icing on the cake. So instead of being extremely happy about Obama being the first person of color in the White House come 2009, I feel a sense of calm with a tinge of apprehension.

Now the hard part begins. He cannot be just an okay president ... he has to be exceptional, because his blazing a path for any person of color who aspires to be president. He has to try to deliver what he promised to the American people, or else in 2012 he will not be re-elected.

On totally different note: why is Jill Biden trying to steal Michelle Obama's shine with that lime green outfit? You know Michelle gave her some vicious side-eye when she saw her in the color.

I Voted ...

... and didn't even get a sticker so I can flaunt my voting to others. But as consolation, the election office I went to had two trannies running things.

Progress.

Back in Dallas, TX

Back in Dallas, TX

The flight just got in and now I am waiting for my checked bag to
arrive. I have left the greenery of the east coast, and have returned
to the dusty browns of Dallas.

I miss the east already.

In Charlotte...again
