Moving On Up

I finally made the decision to move to a new area of Dallas. The posh area of Highland Park is deteriorating with the recent rash of burglaries and break-ins. These events helped make my decision to move a bit easier. Now I will be living in the sketchy Oak Lawn section of town, where hookers are easily accessible -- which I am willing to ignore due the full-size washer/dryer that comes with the new apartment. But within the next year, the area will be cleaned up with all the new construction that's happening.

My new loft

After I returned from my Road Trip, I decided to look at some new places to live. I have been doing research on one particular place for a couple of months, and I ultimately decided to rent there. I originally wanted a one-bedroom, but there wasn't any available to tour so I decided to take a look the brand new lofts. I walked in, and I loved it. I will be moving in two weeks, and I am really excited. I am going to my loft today to take a few measurements, so i will snap a few pictures while I am there. [edited: pictures of my loft via camera phone]

I like where I currently live, but it is an older place -- so old that there aren't any outlets in the bathroom. Also, having two floors becomes tiring when you have to running up and down them at least 5 times every morning before work. My new loft is very modern with stainless steel appliances and marble surfaces.

With the move, I am finally out of Charter Cable's evil clutches. I will be back in the loving arms of Time Warner.

Also, I have decide to go "green" for my electricity needs. All my power will be generated by wind energy through Reliant Energy. I am taking steps to use more renewable energy sources. My next car will be a hybrid, but that won't be until 2009.

The Greek will be back from Australia and staying with me for a week or two. I was going to use him to help me move because I had to help him move .... twice, but I decided just to hire people to move everything because it will be less time consuming and I don't have to get a U-Haul truck. It would be approx. $30 more than doing it myself. And I am lazy, so it win-win for everyone involved.

15 more day before the move.

The Tale of Two Voicemails

Starting on Tuesday, June 12th ...

Voicemail #1 - It was an ex that returning my call from 1.5 weeks ago. He is doing well, and he wants to get together and catch up.

I called him, after not speaking to him for a year, because some people I know brought him up in a conversation we were having and began to grill me about his where abouts. They put two and two together and they realized we dated in the past. Without getting into many details I vaguely explained why I cut of contact with him. After my explanation I was asked, "... you're the type of person to hold a grudge?" I immediately said was wasn't, but I had this nagging thought that maybe I was.

After thinking about it for a couple of hours, I couldn't really figured out why I wasn't talking to him. So I left him a voicemail before I went to sleep, and rambled on for a couple of minutes. I am not even sure what I said -- sleepiness is my equivalent to drunk dialing. I have to call him back today and try together this week.

Voicemails #2 & 3 - The Greek called and left me a couple of frantic voicemails. I was playing tennis, so I didn't get them until I got home. I called him and he wanted me to come over to his place because he had to tell me something that could be said over the phone. I tried to probe for more answers, but he was impatient and wanted to know if I was coming or not. Ten minutes later ... I am at his house and he and his friend was on the couch engaged in conversation.

I told him to spit out the reason why I was summoned with such urgency.

One word: cancer.

He went to get a new prescription for eyeglasses and they saw something on his retina that required him to see a specialist. Since he is doctor (a pathologist) he was sure it was ocular melanoma. I didn't say much because I didn't know what to say. He was talking to me like he was dying the following day, but in reality there wasn't a confirmed diagnosis. He knows too much about cancers because of his profession and as a result, he was going into an emotional tale spin. He had an appointment the next day so I told him just to relax, don't do anything rash, and just wait to talk to the specialist.

Today, he let me know everything was fine and it was just a common issue with the vitreous that nearsighted people may get.

So he is well, and back on track for his big move to Australia in a couple of weeks.

Movies: Premonition

When I saw the trailer, I had a premonition that the movie would suck ... and I was right.

The Greek and I went this past Friday, and I was actually had high hopes for the movie. Too bad the trailer showed me everything interesting about the film and for most of the film I was commenting how pretty Sandra Bullock looked. Seriously. Her bone structure is amazing. But her looks didn't distract me enough to overlook how contrived and convoluted the plot of the movie was.

My major issue is the lack of continuity with the time-space shifts.

[****SPOILER ALERT****]

How time shifts in the movie:

Thursday(husband dies), Monday(husband alive), Saturday(husband's funeral and older daughter has scars on face), Tuesday(husband alive and daughter goes through glass window requiring stitches)...

By my logic the daughter should have scars on face the day the dad dies but she doesn't for some reason. Possible parallel universe?

Sandra Bullock's character listens to a message on the answer left by her husband apologizing for something but is interrupted by another call. The person on the other line ... Sandra Bullock. So there are two Sandras existing at the same time? How can the husband call between parallel universes? His cellphone bills must be high as hell.

This movie doesn't make any sense logically. I tried to like this movie but my brain still hurts with all the inconsistencies. Rent The Lake House, also starring Sandra Bullock, which uses a time-space shift as the plot device but it does it far better.

It is probably a good rental on DVD, but don't waste your money seeing this in the theater.
