Rock Witchu

Tonight, Janet will be in Dallas for her Rock Witchu Tour and I am looking forward to going. I bought my tickets in June and I wasn't sure if she would actually come because she canceled 7 tour dates in a row due to an illness. One week ago today, it was announced that the tour will resume as scheduled, which I was happy to hear ... but I received some terrible news on that day. I have been really down this pass week, so I am hoping the concert will help lift my spirits before I fly back to Syracuse tomorrow.

I had an extra ticket so I am taking a friend who really took care of me during my NYC trip in August. So as a thank you to him, I am giving him my extra ticket. If it wasn't for him I was have never gone to NYC and gotten to meet Venus Williams.

I will post my account of the concert tomorrow.

Janet Jackson: "Feedback" Video Premiere

So the video has premiered on BET's 106 & Park, and it soon was leak on the Internet on various website. I will my site to the list.

I didn't like the video during my initial viewing because it wasn't what I expected. I heard the song and expected a video which would be nothing but choreography, but the concept is Janet is creating the universe. Interesting. I went to a Janet fan site, and there were mixed reaction to the video. There was a debate whether Americans can "get" the video because it had a European feel and doesn't have some half-naked, booty-shaking girls in it. Is this what Europeans really think of Americans?

So I watched the video a couple more times, and I think I like it.

My interpretation: Janet and the dancers are dark matter and their dancing causes the galaxy to form (the Milky Way, going by the white liquid). At the very end she is all red so I think she is either a red giant or a supernova. If she were a red gaint, it would make more season because they are one of older start which other stars are created from.

Got it?

Could it be a metaphor for her career? If there wasn't a Janet, would there have been an Aaliyah, or would there be a Ciara or Britney?

So I like the video and hope when the album is release on February 26th, there will be a high quality version of the video on DVD. There are a lot of subtleties that were lost when I watched on television compared to a digital online version.

What are you thoughts on the video?

"Feedback" for Ms. Jackson

Ms. Jackson (because you are nasty),

This note is in response to your newly release single "Feedback".

I am tired of hearing songs about or relating to your vagina. It was titillating in 1993 with the release of your janet. album, but now in 2007 the topic (and maybe your vagina) is just worn out.

With tracks like the Ying Yang Twins' "The Whisper Song" and David Banner's "Play" the only why your vagina is going cause a media stir is have it on the cover of your new album.

I am not saying this to hurt you, but it is time for some tough love. I just hope this song is not indicative of your new album.

I hope you appreciate this feedback.

Your fan,

Killervirgo

P.S. I am still scarred for life because of "Warmth" from the Damita Jo album.

Janet: WTF? - Billboard Music Awards 2006

You know ... I professed my love for Janet on many occasions. But what I saw tonight on the Billboard Music Award was just awful. I know she has her limitations [singing] and I have overlooked them for a long time because she always brought it in the dance department. Tonight, she failed to deliver.

The bad choreography, the horrible outfits,

what's with the shoulder pads?

and that wig --

egads, the wig!

I swear that is the same wig that Madonna rocked in the "Jump" video, which was then passed down to Britney Spears, who forgot it (and her underwear) at a restaurant where Janet was dining. She picked that thing up, dyed it honey brown and rocked at the BMAs.

I know this is just a instant reaction, and I will be in the front rows when her tour hits Dallas. But I am just let down, is all.

I going to watch Heroes to get that horrible performance out of my mind.

Possible spoiler:

I think Isaac is going to die tonight. It was only Eden. BOO! NBC has hyped up this episode stating that a "hero" is going to die ... meaning a lead character was going to die. Once again Heroes let me down but I will be watching in January for the conclusion. This is the only show that I watch live because it is in HD, so I guess they got me hooked.

Janet - With U

When I lost my blog yesterday I ended up losing a very long tirade on why 20 Y.O. failed to connected to audiences. Basically what it boiled down to was there was way too much Jermaine Dupri on the album. I think that the album should have been solely produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis in a way that it would be a throwback to the Control album but updated. As a fan, 20 Y.O. is a good album, but it could have been so much better.

[source: Toya's World]

"With U" is one of my favorite tracks on the album and I have been playing it since I got my CD. This should have been the lead single instead of Call On Me. I would have had "Weekend" released as the first single but the idea was scrapped when all the fans tried to return this 'gift' for store credit. After listening to the album I see how it doesn't fit sonically.

"With U" is a perfect mix of JD and Jam & Lewis. It has the simple melody brought by JD with additional music and lush vocal production brought by Jam & Lewis. We will see if this single will connect more with an audience than the first two.

Cross your fingers.
